Fisherman on solidified lava. The town of Garachico was half-destroyed by a lava stream in the 1700's. Today, people can bathe in rock pools that were created when lava cooled rapidly as it came into contact with the Atlantic. These pools provide a calmer place to swim on the otherwise turbulent north coast
